I produced this beat in 2022 during my internship at Sound Pool Studios. This track is a combination of Samulnori and the Pansori, Korean traditional music genres, and Mask Off— a popular hip-hop song by Future. I wanted to create harmony between modern Hip-Hop and the sounds of Korean traditional instruments in Samulnori and Pansori. I utilized the youtube audios of Samulnori & Pansori and utilized 'Splice' to find sample audios: lead guitar loop, drum, snare, and down lifter. During the mix&mastering process, I experimented with diverse sound effects by trying various Audio FX effects (e.g. Channel EQ, ChromaVerb, PirchCor) to find the best harmony of Samulnori & Pansori and Boom-Bap Hip-Hop.

 I composed this beat in 2022 as one of the projects of my internship at Sound Pool Studios. I used the elements of the Korean traditional music genre, Samulnori Instrumental Music, to create a loop that would provide rhythmic fundamentals to the beat. Then, I added the sample sources of the Electronic Dance Music genre—kick, bass, crash, hi-hat, guitar loop, and extra sound effects (police dispatcher)— that I found through ‘Splice’. During the mixing and mastering process, I experimented with diverse sound effects a myriad of times using various Audio FX functions (e.g. Channel EQ, ChromaVerb, PirchCor) in order to find the best harmony of two different styles of music genres from different cultures: Samulnori Instrumental Music and 70s New York-based Electronic Dance Music.

This is a track with rap verses written by me in 2021. The beat was produced by my cousin’s friend (@timislow), who suggested I try a short rap on this beat when I visited his studio. I wrote lyrics from the perspective of someone who went through farewell but still misses the ex-lover, comparing the “ex-lover” who the person cannot “get rid of'' to a “yellow color” that is dyed into my hair, making myself ‘Blonded’ by the memories shared with the past companion. After recording my rap, I met with Timi two times that week to finish arranging and mixing & mastering the beat, and re-recording some parts that I wasn’t satisfied with.

This is a futuristic beat that I produced in 2020. I tried to provide a synesthetic effect as the listeners listen to this beat: I utilized the bouncy melody and sound effects to remind listeners of the twinkling lights of stars, which is a futuristic image I want people to think of when they listen to this beat. I intentionally used a raw and heavy bass so that the beat does not sound too light because of the bouncy sound elements in the beat. Moreover, with a continuation of high hats, I added a Trap genre content as I believed that it could add to the rhythmic pace of the beat.

This track is the first beat I made when I first started using Logic Pro Application in 2019. As I was inspired by Kanye West’s usage of dialogic sampling at the beginning of the beat, I put the audio sample by Adele Givens from the standing comedy show, Def Comedy Jam, at the beginning of my beat. As this was my first time producing a beat, I used audio files of the bass, snare, and vocals that were basically equipped with Logic Pro.
