Emotions of Flight
<Photo taken with iPhone XR; Tool Used: ‘Adobe Photoshop’> The original photo was taken in 2021 during the flight from Incheon airport to JFK. I wanted to express the emotions that arise during the time spent traveling, such as joy, sadness, longing, and excitement, when I leave my mother country to study abroad and return home for vacation. In order to express the various emotions whenever I take airplanes to travel between South Korea and the United States, I added black and white tones to the photo; I input images such as the shadow of the wing of the airplane and people standing on the wing; I changed the color of the sea to purple so that the photo can show a mysterious and complex but bright and joyful atmosphere. YES or NO
<Photo taken with iPhone SE; Tool Used: ‘Adobe Photoshop’> The photo was taken in Seoul at six in the morning on the day I arrived back in Korea from the United States in 2022. When I walk around my town, it seems like numerous signboards on the street are trying to expose themselves with splendor, attracting the attention of people. However, the truth is, I felt the emptiness of the city with a cold stillness inside. As I felt both the splendor and emptiness in the city street, I decided to show the contrast in the original photo (the left side of the photo) and the photo (the right side of the photo) that I edited by erasing all signs on the signboards of markets on the street. The original photo reflects the splendor while the edited photo reflects the city’s emptiness with cold stillness. Stop Sign_Door to Another Dimension
<Photo taken with iPhone SE; Tool Used: ‘Adobe Photoshop’> The two original photos of the images on the ‘Stop Sign_Door to Another Dimension’ were taken in spring 2022 during parent’s weekend in NYC. Inspired by Platform Nine and Three Quarters in Harry Potter, I wanted to demonstrate the image of entering a different dimension when one stands in front of the STOP sign in the photo. In order to effectively describe another dimension beyond the STOP sign, I overlapped two different images that have contrasting colors and atmosphere, creating two coexisting impressions in one artwork. |
